Credit 101 Quick Stop
November 18, 2021 from 6PM - 7PM
The first session was focused on discussing how your credit history can be a key factor in qualifying for homeownership, and how to build a credit score that can secure the mortgage you need.
The objectives of the workshop are:
- To increase knowledge on personal credit basics, how to clean it up, rebuild it, and protect it going forward.
- To increase comprehension on how to effectively dispute negative credit items.
- To provide insider information on how credit bureaus handle and remove items from your credit
- To review loopholes in the law that you can take advantage of to repair your credit.
- To provide steps to quickly get 3 good credit lines on your credit profile.
Familiarizing yourself with these business professionals and their roles in the homebuying process will help you make informed decisions when building your team.
The second session was held on June 23, 2021, at 6pm CDT. You will learn the importance of building a solid team of business professionals who you will work with on your road to homeownership. This session covered these roles:
- Real estate agent
- Broker
- Lender
- Inspector

Session 3
Road Rules (What to Expect)
July 22 from 6pm-7pm
Our third session was held on July 22 from 6pm-7pm. In this workshop, we discussed the financial responsibilities that come with homeownership and help you make a plan for financial sustainability. You will learn more about these topics:
- Paying your monthly mortgage payment
- Annual / monthly property taxes
- Homeowner’s association fees (if applicable)
- Homeowner’s insurance
- Maintaining your home, including repairs and keeping your home exterior within any community guidelines
- Utility payments
The fourth and final session of our series covered customizing, upgrading, and maintaining your home. There are some simple and affordable improvements that will increase your home’s livability and property value. We also cover long-term protection of your home and other important homeownership aspects including:
- Renovations
- Upgrades to home systems and areas
- Painting your walls and other cosmetic changes
- Inspecting and repairing important home infrastructure such as roofs, plumbing, and electrical systems
In this session, we brought awareness of programs that targeted the housing needs of low-income families and other underserved populations to address this critical and expanding need of initiatives such as first-time homebuyer grants and other down payment assistance programs.
