The City of Houston, in its commitment to affordable housing, proudly contributed over $14.8 million of Community Development Block GrantDisaster Recovery (CDBG-DR17) funds toward the $38.3 million cost of construction for Caroline Lofts.

“We are pleased to welcome Caroline Lofts to Midtown,” said Mayor John Whitmire. “This complex is a GREAT example of our collaboration with the Texas General Land Office (GLO) and the utilization of Hurricane Harvey disaster recovery funds. This development reinforces our collective commitment to establishing Houston as the most affordable housing city in the nation.”

This innovative Green Building and energy-efficient community features one—and two-bedroom units with modern amenities such as nine-foot ceilings, Energy Star appliance package, washers and dryers, and balconies.

Caroline Lofts embodies the City's commitment to transit-oriented living. Deputy Director Derek Sellers of the City of Houston Housing and Community Development Department expressed his satisfaction with enhancing Houston’s access to affordable homes. “Our success is a result of hard work and collaboration between private and public partnerships. We are thankful to the U.S. Housing and Urban Development and the GLO for helping us expand housing opportunities for Houstonians and look forward to celebrating similar developments in the near future.”

“We are proud to be a part of the City of Houston, Texas General Land Office, and HUD efforts to build and restore affordable and quality housing following Hurricane Harvey and to help improve the quality of life for residents in Midtown,” said President David Koogler, Mark-Dana Corporation.
