City of Houston Housing and Community Development Celebrates Longstanding Partnership with Access Care of Coastal Texas for Pride Month
June 10, 2024 -- Houston, Texas -- Happy Pride Month!
At HCD, we are proud to support our community and highlight the incredible work of our partners. This month, we are thrilled to spotlight Access Care of Coastal Texas (ACCT), a dedicated organization providing compassionate, community-based services and education that empower individuals of all ages to courageously live with HIV/AIDS. Through their efforts, ACCT contributes significantly to developing vibrant and healthy communities.
ACCT’s comprehensive services include Housing Opportunities for Persons With AIDS (HOPWA), which ensures those in need have a safe and supportive place to call home. HCD has been a consistent supporter of the HOPWA programming since 2006, contributing over $9 million to its efforts. Program services include Housing/Utility Assistance, Tenant-Based Rental Assistance (TBRA), Short-Term Rental Mortgage Utility (STRMU) Assistance, and Permanent Housing Placement (PHP).
HCD remains committed to longstanding partnerships with organizations such as ACCT. Our objective is to develop vibrant and healthy communities for all, and we understand that collaboration is critical.
“Housing is fundamental to achieving healthy outcomes,” says HCD Director Mike Nichols. “We are proud to support ACCT and their invaluable work. Together, we are making a difference in the lives of many.”
In addition to HOPWA programming, ACCT provides extensive financial assistance, vital nutrition support, medical transportation, and a wide array of physical and mental health resources. Their commitment to inclusivity and care embodies the spirit of Pride Month and the ongoing fight for equality and dignity for all.

The City of Houston Housing and Community Development (HCD) department makes long-term investments to improve the lives of Houston residents by creating opportunities for every Houstonian to have a home they can afford in a community where they can thrive. Our department will invest approximately $450 million in federal, state, and local funds this fiscal year to construct and maintain affordable homes, reduce barriers to homeownership, support the work of social service providers, build public amenities, and facilitate disaster recovery efforts.
