Green Oaks Apartments to bring high-quality housing to Greenspoint
Newly constructed building will provide affordable options for working families
October 28, 2021 -- Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner and local officials joined residents to celebrate the ribbon cutting for Green Oaks Apartments, a new rental development just north of Greens Bayou. This community of garden-style apartments provides homes for 177 households, with sustainable design, robust amenities, and easy access to a high opportunity area.
“Greenspoint has been hit hard by disasters, including widespread flooding, which has impacted the number of affordable rental opportunities here,” said Mayor Sylvester Turner. “The majority of the population in Greenspoint are renters, and this new apartment building will allow families to be closer to their work and recreational pursuits.”
Received with widespread community support, Green Oaks Apartments includes a mixture of one-, two-, and three-bedroom units, allowing for households of varying sizes to find comfortable homes. Rents will be accessible for workers in a variety of professions and at a variety of income levels, opening options for essential workers, families with young children, and people with disabilities to live in a high-opportunity area. On-site, residents will have amenities including a dog park, picnic areas, and a clubhouse, along with options to take supportive classes on health, professional development, parenting, and computer literacy. Additionally, with the nearest public transit option within a quarter-mile, there is easy access to job sites and retail.
The City of Houston pledged $6.3 million of federal HOME Investment Partnership Program funds, toward the total cost of $34 million comprised of state-granted tax credits and private loans. These apartments assist in the City of Houston’s effort to grow the supply of housing options for residents that are affordable, high-quality, and in areas that are opportunity-rich.
