The Municipal Prosecution Section is one of eleven sections in the City of Houston Legal Department and consists of 21 attorneys and 2 support staff. The Municipal Prosecution Section represents the State of Texas in all cases that are filed in municipal court. In municipal court the majority of cases are, criminal in nature, punishable by a fine only, and involve the violation of a state law or the code of ordinances.

The Municipal Prosecution Section of the City of Houston Legal Department is open from 8am – 5pm Monday through Friday. Each day, there is a prosecutor on duty who can answer questions related to cases filed in Municipal Court. The phone number is 713.247.5474. Please note that the Municipal Prosecution Section cannot provide legal advice to Non-City of Houston employees.
- General information relating to the Municipal Court can be obtained at 713.837.0311.
- Motions related to cases in municipal court must be filed with the Office of the Clerk of Court. A copy must be filed with the Municipal Prosecution Section either in person, by mail or by fax. The address is 1400 Lubbock, Room 133, Houston, Texas 77002 and the fax number is 713.247.8387.
- Motions for continuance must be made at least 5 business days prior to the day of trial.
