Neighborhood Depository & Recycling Centers’ Hours Change Due To End of Daylight Saving Time

HOUSTON — Effective Sunday, November 3, 2024, the City of Houston Solid Waste Management Department (SWMD) will change the hours of operation for its six (6) Neighborhood Depositories to 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., to adjust with the end of Daylight Saving Time.

The following locations will be open Tuesday through Sunday, except on City-approved holidays. Please arrive at least 30 minutes before closing to allow adequate time for unloading.

Houston residents can bring recyclables or dispose of Junk Waste at the following locations:

  • North – 9003 N Main, Houston, TX 77022
  • Northwest – 14400 Sommermeyer, Houston, TX 77041
  • Northeast – 5565 Kirkpatrick, Houston, TX 77028
  • South – 5100 Sunbeam, Houston, TX 77033
  • Southwest – 10785 SW Freeway, Houston, TX 77074
  • Southeast – 2240 Central Street, Houston, TX 77017

To use the depositories, residents must provide proof of residency, such as a Texas Driver’s License, a valid Texas ID, or a current water/utility bill or city property tax receipt.

The Depositories accept the following items:

  • Junk waste: furniture, tree limbs, stoves, and large appliances (appliances with refrigerant must have a certified tag stating a qualified technician has removed the refrigerant)
  • Up to five (5) automobile tires per month per residential unit
  • Maximum of four cubic yards of building material (excluding roofing shingles, brick, and plaster)
  • Recyclables: tree waste, concrete, mattresses, aluminum and tin cans, all plastics - all numbers and symbols accepted, newspapers and magazines, cardboard, glass bottles and jars, and used motor oil
  • Clothing and shoes are accepted at the North and Southeast Depositories

Depositories will not accommodate trailers over 16 feet long or four feet high. Residents are reminded to separate recyclables by material for efficient drop-off.
