- Public Hearing Notice for Landmarks, Protected Landmarks and Change of Designations: Notice is hereby given that the City Council of the City of Houston will hold a public hearing on Wednesday, January 14, 2026 at 9:00 a.m., in the City Hall Council Chambers, located at 901 Bagby Street, on the designation request of two Landmarks, four Protected Landmarks, and two Change of Designations.
The Houston Archaeological and Historical Commission (HAHC) approved the designations and recommends City Council’s approval of the following after determining the applications satisfied all criteria in accordance with Article VII, Historic Preservation, Chapter 33, Code of Ordinances of the City of Houston and Chapter 211, Texas Local Government Code, which allows for City Council to designate a Landmark, Protected Landmark, or Change of Designation upon application by the property owner. All listed properties are located within the City of Houston, Harris County, Texas.
Landmark: Greater Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church at 828 W 20th Street (HAHC approval November 7, 2024); Protected Landmark: Valenti-Dissen House at 1505 Alamo Street (HAHC approval May 8, 2025); Protected Landmark: Valenti-Dissen House at 1507 Alamo Street (HAHC approval May 8, 2025); Protected Landmark: West Edgemont’s “Dream Home” at 1707 Milford Street (HAHC approval June 5, 2025); Landmark: The Alan and Hattie Green Home at 5319 Institute Lane (HAHC approval June 5, 2025); Protected Landmark: Greater Rose Hill Missionary Baptist Church at 3029 Holman Street (HAHC approval October 9, 2025); Change of Designation: 3109 Morrison Street from Contributing to Non-Contributing in the Woodland Heights Historic District (HAHC approval November 7, 2024); and Change of Designation: 320 E 20th Street from Potentially Contributing to Non-Contributing in the Houston Heights East Historic District (HAHC approval September 11, 2025).
All are invited to speak for or against the proposed Landmarks, Protected Landmarks, and Change of Designations at the public hearing. Those wishing to speak at this public hearing should call the City Secretary of the City of Houston at (832) 393-1100 before 3:00 p.m. on Monday, January 12, 2026, to be registered. Meeting information for this public hearing will be published on the City Council Meetings Information webpage https://www.houstontx.gov/council/meetingsinfo.html one week prior to the public hearing.
