City Council Approves Contribution to Robins Landing
Funds provided will facilitate necessary infrastructure
December 1, 2021 —Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner and City Council today approved $4.79 million toward Robins Landing, a master-planned residential community in Northeast Houston. The 127-acre community, developed by Houston Habitat for Humanity, will include more than 450 single-family homes and essential services.
“Increasing the amount and availability of affordable housing is one of my priorities. As Houston continues to grow, so do the diverse needs of our residents and neighborhoods,” said Mayor Sylvester Turner. “Projects like Robins Landing seek to meet people where they are and give them the opportunities that previously did not exist. This development will bring more affordable housing, jobs, and job training to northeast Houston, in addition to services like healthcare, banking, and more.”
Robins Landing, located near Tidwell Road and Mesa Drive, will provide homeownership opportunities and help create financial stability for families. Almost one-quarter of the new single-family homes will be accessible to Houstonian homebuyers earning 80 percent or below the Area Median Income, about $63,000 yearly for a family of four. The master-planned community will also include essential services and amenities such as a healthcare clinic and library.
“Houston Habitat is pleased to receive support from Mayor Turner and the City of Houston for Robins Landing, which will go towards building the necessary infrastructure for a resilient, sustainable community,” said Allison Hay, Houston Habitat for Humanity Executive Director. “It is our hope that Robins Landing will be a model for how affordable housing communities are built in the future.”
The City is financing 14.5% of the total infrastructure development cost of $33 million. The balance will be funded through private loans. For more information about Robins Landing visit http://robinslanding.net/ or https://www.houstonhabitat.org/initiatives/neighborhood-revitalization/.
