Caution Graphic   EFFECTIVE SUNDAY, March 10, 2024 - The Neighborhood Depositories & Recycling Centers hours are changing to account for the start of Daylight Saving Time. The centers will be open Tuesday to Sunday (closed on city-approved holidays) from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. It is recommended that citizens arrive at least 30 minutes before closing.

Houstonians may use the depositories up to four times per month.  Citizens are encouraged to arrive at least 30 minutes before closing time to allow adequate time to unload.  Each user must provide the following as proof of residency:

Neighborhood Depository/Recycling Centers Locations PROOF OF RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS

Photo Identification: A current state of Texas issued identification card, such as Texas Driver’s license; Texas Department of Public Safety issued I.D. card; or Texas License to Carry Permit.

AND ONE OF THE FOLLOWING:

Utility Bill - A utility bill, power, water or gas, from the current month or previous two (2) months. The address on the utility bill must match the address on the state issued identification. Electronic bills are accepted.

Lease Agreement - If no utility bill is available, you may bring a copy of your current lease or rental agreement for a City of Houston address. The address on the lease or rental agreement must match the address on the state issued identification.*

*For residential property owners whose primary residence is outside the state of Texas, who do not have a Texas ID, a current property tax bill must be shown; the names on the photo identification and tax bill must match.

* For out-of-state STUDENTS at Houston universities, a current student I.D. may be used in place of a utility bill.

Residents who wish to discard TreeWaste/Junk Waste before their scheduled once-per-month pickup may use one of six neighborhood depository locations.

Neighborhood Depository/Recycling Centers Locations

The Neighborhood Depositories/Recycling Centers accept the following recyclable materials:

  • Ad inserts
  • Aerosol Cans
  • Aluminum Cans
  • Cardboard
  • Cartons - shelf stable and refrigerated
  • Catalogs
  • Concrete
  • Glass bottles and Jars
  • Magazines
  • Mattresses
  • Newspapers
  • Plastics #1-#5 and #7
    (toys, packing materials, flower pots, styrofoam, or plastic furniture are not accepted)
  • Steel cans
  • Telephone Books
  • Tin cans
  • Up to five (5) automobile tires (rims not accepted) per visit, limit of ten (10) total per month.
    Note per City of Houston Code of Ordinances, Chapter 39, Article VIII: individuals hauling six or more tires within city limits are required to obtain a tire transporter permit.

Additional Information

Neighborhood depositories will not accept household garbage, more than five (5) tires per month, per household, and large quantities of building materials.

Trash from commercial haulers or brought in a commercial vehicle (business or rented commercial) will not be accepted.
