Municipal Courts Officials Urge Program Participation, Amnesty Discounts Available Through Saturday, November 17th
November 14, 2018 -- The City of Houston Municipal Courts Department’s 2018 Fall Amnesty Program will end 11:59 p.m., Saturday, November 17, 2018. Court officials spent the last three weeks encouraging individuals with delinquent court matters to take advantage of this program to resolve their cases at a discounted rate.
“Harvey recovery has been very traumatic for many people, and putting the pieces back together has been a long journey” stated Director and Presiding Judge, J. Elaine Marshall. “We are encouraging anyone with delinquent citations to use this opportunity to handle their court matters once and for all; by calling us at 3-1-1, visiting us online, or coming into any of our six court locations to let us help you,” said Judge Marshall.
Cases eligible for amnesty include cases that were delinquent prior to September 1, 2018. Only the defendant named in the citation or their attorney can participate in the Amnesty Program. Bonding companies, friends, relatives, and spouses cannot make the amnesty request on behalf of someone else.
The Amnesty Program does not apply to a defendant that is in custody, previously adjudicated cases, parking citations, administrative violations, bond forfeitures, or civil cases. Individuals may call the Houston Helpline by dialing 3-1-1 or 713.837.0311 for questions about whether their specific case(s) is amnesty eligible.
Defendants may take advantage of the Amnesty Program by phone, US Mail or in person at any Municipal Court location.
