Tour, Simulator & Court Clinics Among Municipal Courts Week Activities

November 5, 2018 -- Municipal Courts Week, a statewide awareness initiative, will commence in Houston November 5-9, 2018, with a weeks’ worth of activities hosted by the Municipal Courts Department (MCD).

“Houstonians are likely to encounter the judicial system at the Municipal Court level more often than any other court. Municipal Courts Week is a chance to highlight the accessible legal forum that we provide to all in making sure court matters are heard in a fair and efficient manner,” stated Judge J. Elaine Marshall, Director and Presiding Judge of the Municipal Courts Department. “It is also a chance to educate drivers on how following basic traffic safety, such as not speeding, always wearing your seatbelts, or not texting while driving, prevents accidents and saves lives,” said Judge Marshall.

The Houston Parks & Recreation Department (PRD) and the Houston Health Department (HHD) will partner with MCD to host Municipal Courts Clinics at multi-service and community centers throughout the Houston area.

The Municipal Court Clinics' purpose is to help people understand how to resolve their court case(s) and outstanding warrant(s). Helpful court, traffic safety information, and promotional items will be distributed at the clinics. The clinics are free of charge and no appointments are necessary. The Court Clinic schedule is as follows:

  • Tuesday, November 6th, 2pm-6pm, Alief Community Center – 11903 Bellaire Blvd 77072
  • Wednesday, November 7th, 10am-2pm, Sharpstown Community Center – 6600 Harbor Town 77036
  • Thursday, November 8th, 10am-2pm, Kashmere Multi Service Center – 4802 Lockwood Drive 77026

Other public Municipal Courts Week activities will take place at the Herbert W. Gee Municipal Courthouse at 1400 Lubbock Street throughout the week include:

  • Juror Appreciation Day, Monday, November 5, 2018
  • Community Day Thursday, November 8, 2018 10am to 2pm.
