More than 40 hiring employers, including the City of Houston, are looking to fill 1,300 full- and part-time positions at Turnaround Houston. Job seekers can also connect via chat with hiring managers and company representatives, as well as find information about job readiness tools, training and continued education.
Turnaround Houston, a series of events which combines the elements of a job fair and a resource center, is a community-based initiative created by The Mayor in 2016. Since its inception, it has been attended by more than 2,100 job seekers. It is being held virtually for the first time this year.
“Signing up for this virtual fair will bring you in front of employers who are looking to hire immediately, and it will also connect you to a variety of community resources to help with life in general,” said Mike Temple, director of Workforce Solutions – Gulf Coast Workforce Board, who is partnering with the Office of Business Opportunity and the Office of Council Member Carolyn Evans-Shabazz – Houston City Council District D to host the event.
“As Council Member of District D, it is my job to help people to attain or enhance their quality of life,” said Council Member Evans-Shabazz. “This virtual Readiness Fair will provide job training and job-search skills to eliminate barriers to employment and to provide actual hiring opportunities.”
