Report a Blocked Crossing
If you encounter a blocked railroad crossing that is causing a public safety concern or significant traffic disruption, it is crucial to report it promptly. The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) is the primary agency responsible for tracking and investigating blocked crossing incidents.
To report a blocked railroad crossing:
- Online: Visit the FRA's blocked crossing reporting website at https://www.fra.dot.gov/blockedcrossings/
- Phone: Call 311 to report blocked crossing to the City of Houston
When reporting, be prepared to provide:
- The exact location of the crossing (street name and railroad line if known).
- The date and time the crossing became blocked.
- The approximate duration the crossing has been blocked.
- Any identifying information about the train (e.g., train number, railroad company).
- Report only once per incident
Your reports provide vital data that helps the FRA and local authorities identify problem areas and work with railroads to improve operations.
