University of Houston - Downtown

Ed-U-Gator is the mascot of the University of Houston Downtown. He is named Ed-U-Gator because UHD is located at Allen's Landing, the birthplace of Houston at Buffalo Bayou. This important downtown waterway was home to many alligators, although not so much anymore. :-) The last alligator seen in the bayou was during Hurricane Harvey in 2017. (High water. No surprise.) As a premier institution of higher education - and as Houston's downtown university - we are deeply proud of our students, alumni, faculty, staff and their continued success. UHD will be celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2024, and we want to start sharing this good, year-long celebration with the greater Houston community. Being part of the H-E-B Thanksgiving Day parade is a key element in our anniversary plan.
