Houston Police Officer assigned to South Gessner Patrol was dispatched to a call for a suspicious person with a weapon walking along a sidewalk near a school. Upon arrival on the scene, the officer encountered the male suspect and attempted to speak with him. Immediately upon the uniformed officer making contact with the suspect, the suspect produced a firearm and began to shoot at the officer. The officer subsequently began discharging his duty weapon at the suspect. During this exchange of gunfire, both the officer and the suspect were struck. The officer began to render aide to the suspect for his wounds, but the suspect was ultimately pronounced deceased on scene by the Houston Fire Department. The officer was treated on scene for a non-life-threatening wound he received from the suspect.
