Houston Police Officers (HPD) assigned to the North Belt Crime Suppression Team were assisting a Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) task force with surveillance on a vehicle known to have been used in multiple armed robberies in Harris County and surrounding areas. Officers observed the unknown suspect commit an Aggravated Robbery at a liquor store located at 26834 North Fwy in Montgomery County, Texas. The officers activated emergency lights on their vehicles and were wearing clearly marked tactical vests when they attempted to arrest the suspect outside the liquor store. The suspect was armed with a pistol and refused the officers’ commands to drop the weapon and surrender. The suspect then fled through the strip center parking lot on foot and around to the rear of the business. According to the officers, the suspect continued to refuse commands to stop and to drop the weapon. The officers said the suspect then began to turn towards them with the gun at which time they discharged their weapons, striking the suspect. The suspect was pronounced deceased on the scene.
