Officers employed by the Texas Attorney General’s Office, Texas Department of Public Safety, and Harris County Precinct 7 Constables Office were at the location to serve a warrant. The suspect was known to live at the residence. Upon the officers’ arrival, they announced themselves and indicated their intention to take the suspect into custody. Instead of complying with the officers’ instructions, the suspect armed himself with a shotgun and pistols. The officers moved to a position of cover and eventually requested the Houston Police Department’s Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit. Several hours later, the suspect opened the front door of the residence, pointed a shotgun in the direction of officers standing outside, and a SWAT officer, fearing for the safety of those officers, fired a shot at the suspect. The suspect retreated inside the residence and fired at least one shot at the SWAT officer. The SWAT officer returned fire and struck the suspect. The suspect succumbed to his injuries and was declared deceased at the scene.
