Houston Police Department officers were dispatched to a family disturbance call of a male who assaulted his wife earlier in the morning. Officers gathered statements and the suspect returned inside his apartment. The suspect returned onto the balcony with a rifle and fired upon the officer, at which time the officer returned fire. The suspect retreated into the apartment as additional officers arrived. The suspect finally exited the apartment and was taken into custody without incident. No injuries resulted from the exchange of gunfire.
