Houston Police Department officers responded to a shots fired at the Best Western Hotel. Upon arrival in the parking lot, officers were approached by a citizen who directed them to the right side of the building, stating that the suspect was in that area. Officers observed a male matching the suspect’s description carrying a rifle at his side. Officers issued multiple verbal commands instructing the suspect to drop the rifle. The suspect instead raised the rifle, pointed it at the officers, and fired. Three officers discharged their service weapons, striking the suspect. The suspect fell to the ground, and officers immediately began rendering first aid until personnel from the Houston Fire Department arrived and continued medical treatment. The suspect later succumbed to his injuries.
