Houston police officers with the Midwest Crime Suppression Team located a known burglary suspect. The officers began surveillance of the suspect and at one point, lost visual sight of him. The officers began searching the area in unmarked police vehicles and as the Crime Suppression Team Sergeant was searching behind a building at the 7000 block of Harwin Drive; the suspect began firing a pistol into the Sergeant’s vehicle. The Sergeant was struck several times by gunfire but was able to exit his vehicle and return fire toward the suspect. The suspect fled the location on foot and was found a short time later around the corner of a building. Officers provided first aid to the suspect and the Sergeant at the scene. The Houston Fire department pronounced the suspect deceased at the location and the Houston Police Sergeant was transported to the hospital where he was treated for several gunshot wounds. The Sergeant is in stable condition at this time.
