Houston Police Department Midwest Patrol officers were conducting a traffic stop when they heard an unrelated disturbance in an alleyway adjacent to the traffic stop. As officers continued with the traffic stop, they heard gunfire from the location of the disturbance and witnessed a male suspect shooting a firearm at other citizens. One officer subsequently discharged his firearm to protect the safety of the citizens. After this occurred, the male suspect ran from the scene leading to a brief foot pursuit prior to him being taken into custody a short distance from the scene. Responding patrol units located three individuals with gunshot wounds near the scene of the shooting incident. The complainants were transported to local area hospitals, with one succumbing to life-threatening injuries. The additional two complainants sustained non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.
