The complainant stated that her home security cameras captured two men breaking into her home. The first officer arrived and observed a male suspect walking away from a parked car in the complainant's driveway. The officer exited his patrol vehicle and ordered the male to stop. The male refused to stop and speak to the officer and began to run away. The officer chased the suspect through several backyards. While the officer chased the suspect on foot, the security camera captured a second suspect leaving the victim's residence, jumping into the car parked in her driveway and leave. The first suspect attempted to jump a fence; the officer caught the suspect before he could make it over the fence. The suspect physically resisted the officer from being taken into custody and began fighting the officer. During the struggle with the officer, the suspect produced a handgun and attempted to shoot the officer. The officer was able to retrieve his own firearm and shoot the suspect one time. First aid was immediately rendered and HFD requested to the scene. Upon arrival of HFD, they declared the male suspect to be deceased. Secondary units arrived and based on community involvement and tips, located the second suspect a short time later. This suspect was taken into custody without further incident. This suspect is initially charged with Burglary of Habitation with possible additional charges to follow. The officer sustained minor injuries.
