May 28, 2024 - Charges have been filed against two suspects arrested and another sought in the shooting of a man at 9522 Madera Road about 8:55 p.m. on April 16.  

One suspect, Anthony L. Merritt, 19, is charged with three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and deadly conduct in the 185th State District Court.  A booking photo of Merritt is attached to this news release. 

A second male suspect, 16, has been referred to Harris County Juvenile Probation authorities on aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and deadly conduct charges.  Juvenile suspect information and booking photos are not releasable.  

The wanted female suspect, Kiersten Chanel Lathan, 19, is charged with assault of a family member in Harris County Criminal Court #3.  A prior photo of Lathan, who is not in custody, is attached to this news release.  

The male victim, 40, was transported to an area hospital in stable condition.  

HPD Major Assaults & Family Violence Division Detectives A. Garcia and V. Gamez reported:  

HPD patrol officers responded to a shooting call near the above address and located an uninjured male, who stated another male (victim) had been shot.  Houston Fire Department paramedics transported the victim to the hospital.  

A preliminary investigation determined the uninjured male got into a physical altercation with his girlfriend while outside his residence.  Two male suspects with the girlfriend fired shots at the male, who was not struck.  The other male present (victim) was struck by the gunfire.  The two male suspects and the female then fled the scene in a vehicle described only as a black, four-door sedan of unknown make or model.  Two other witnesses were located uninjured inside the residence. 

Further investigation identified Merritt, Lathan and the juvenile male as suspects in this case.  The Harris County District Attorney's Office was contacted and all three suspects were charged for their involvement in this incident.  

Merritt was arrested on April 24 without incident.  The juvenile suspect was arrested on April 25 without incident.
