May 28, 2024 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the shooting of a woman at 16415 Buccaneer Lane about 1:30 a.m. last Friday (May 24).

The suspect, Makayla Shynce Pratt, 22, is charged with aggravated assault of a family member and tampering/fabricating evidence in the 487th State District Court.  A February 2024 booking photo of Pratt is attached to this news release.

The victim, 22, was transported to an area hospital in stable condition.

HPD Major Assaults & Family Violence Division Detective J. Hasley reported:

Officers were dispatched to a shooting call at the apartment complex at the above address and found the victim in the parking lot.  She had suffered a gunshot wound to the leg.  The victim provided officers with information on the identity and whereabouts of the suspect.  She also told officers she and the suspect, identified as Pratt, were in a previous dating relationship.

Other officers in the area located Pratt at a nearby motel.  She was taken into custody without incident.  The initial investigation revealed that Pratt had a two-year-old child with her during this incident.  Pratt was subsequently taken to jail and charged with two felonies.  The child was not harmed and was released to a family member.
