May 16, 2024 - Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 1300 East Loop North (East Interstate Highway 610 North) about 3 a.m. today (May 16).  

The identity of the deceased male is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.  

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant M. Sudduth and Officer S. Bouarar reported:  

The driver of a blue Hyundai Tuscon was traveling at a high rate of speed northbound on the freeway at the above address when he struck the rear of a white Peterbuilt 579 tractor-trailer truck.  The Hyundai then left the roadway, struck a tree and then burst into flames.  

Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced the Hyundai driver deceased.  

The driver of the 18-wheeler remained at the scene, was determined not to be impaired and was questioned and released.  

The investigation is continuing.
