March 5, 2024 - Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 9800 Eastex Freeway (North U.S. Highway 59) service road about 7:10 p.m. on Tuesday (March 5).  

The identity of the deceased woman, 43, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.  

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Griffiths and Officer R. Whittemore reported:  

The woman was driving a black NIssan Altima northbound on the service road near the above address when she lost control of the vehicle and struck a wall on the west side of the service road.  The Altima then went back eastbound and slid down the embankment into the bayou.  Houston Fire Department paramedics transported the woman to Ben Taub General Hospital, where doctors pronounced her deceased today (March 6).  

It is believed the woman may have suffered a medical emergency just prior to the crash.  

The investigation is continuing.
