June 21, 2024 - Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 8500 South Freeway (South State Highway 288) about 7:20 p.m. on Thursday (June 20).

The identity of the deceased female, 37, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant F. Briones and Officer T. Syed reported:

The driver of a white Isuzu FTR toll road work truck was traveling northbound in the toll lanes of the South Freeway and stopped in a lane of traffic to remove debris from the roadway. As the truck stopped, it was struck in the rear by a silver Chevrolet 1500 pickup truck, driven by the female.

Paramedics pronounced the female deceased at the scene. The driver of the Isuzu was not injured.

A preliminary investigation indicated the female driver failed to control her speed prior to striking the Isuzu truck.

The investigation is continuing.
