June 10, 2024 - Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting of a man at 4639 Smooth Oak Lane about 2:20 a.m. on Sunday (June 9).

The identity of the victim, 21, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant A. Lopez and Detective N. Sharp reported:

About 12:45 p.m., HPD patrol officers responded to a person down call at the above address and found an unresponsive man with multiple gunshot wounds in the backyard of the residence. Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and pronounce the man deceased.

A preliminary investigation determined earlier that morning, the victim took the trash can out to the side of his residence when an unknown male suspect ran up to him and shot him multiple times. The suspect fled the scene.

At this time, there is no known motive or suspect description.
