UPDATE: One Suspect Arrested, Another Sought in June Fatal Shooting at 4760 Sherwood Lane

July 31, 2024 - Charges have been filed against one suspect arrested and another being sought in the fatal shooting of a man at 4760 Sherwood Lane about 9:45 p.m. on June 25.  

One suspect, Terryl Shawn Richard Jr., 29, is in custody.  He is charged with murder, unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, and possession with intent to manufacture/deliver a controlled substance in the 180th State District Court.  A March 2024 booking photo of Richard is attached to this news release. 

The second suspect, Trishia Michelle Perault, 26, is not in custody.  She is charged with possession with intent to manufacture/deliver a controlled substance in the same court.  A photo of Perault is attached to this news release.  

The victim is identified as Derrick Dewayne Smith, 31.  

HPD Homicide Division Detectives W. Huff and J. Nguyen reported:  

HPD patrol officers responded to a shooting call at a motel at the above address and found an unresponsive man with gunshot wounds inside a vehicle.  Officers provided medical assistance until Houston Fire Department paramedics arrived and transported the man, later identified as Mr. Smith, to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased.  

Further investigation identified Richard and Perault as two persons of interest who may have information regarding this incident.  

On Tuesday (July 30), Richard was arrested without incident and subsequently charged for his role in this incident.  He was booked into the Harris County Jail.  Perault remains at large.
