Suspect Charged, Wanted in Fatal Shooting at 3821 Old Spanish Trail
January 16, 2024 - Charges have been filed against a suspect wanted in the fatal shooting of a man at 3821 Old Spanish Trail about 8:05 p.m. on Saturday (January 13).
The suspect, Shayla Monique Washington, 35, is charged with murder in the 184th State District Court. A prior booking photo of Washington, who is not in custody, is attached to this news release.
She is accused in the death of Joseph Williams, 47.
HPD Homicide Division Detectives M. Barton and A. Ledford reported:
HPD patrol officers were flagged down by a passing motorist regarding an incident at a gas station at the above address. Mr. Williams was found unresponsive near the gas pumps and responding Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced him deceased.
Further investigation and witness statements identified Washington, also known as Shayla Monique Rugimbana, as the shooter. She fled the scene in a silver Nissan Armada with Texas paper tags 4544E98.
