January 16, 2024 - Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 1111 West Loop North (West Interstate Highway 610 North) about 1:35 a.m. on Sunday (Jan. 14).

The deceased male is identified as Tyriq Mosley Smith, 25.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant R. Dallas and Officer L. Fenoglio reported:

Mr. Mosley Smith was a passenger in a blue Nissan Sentra traveling southbound on the freeway at the above address when he argued with the driver and asked the driver to pull over.  When the driver pulled over to the right shoulder of the freeway, Mosley Smith got out of the vehicle and began to run across the freeway.  At that time, he was struck by a gray Mercedes Benz E400 in the southbound lanes.  Paramedics arrived and pronounced Mosley Smith deceased at the scene.

Both drivers remained on scene and were evaluated for impairment.  The Nissan's male driver, Chrishaun Dontez Johnson, 19, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated in Harris County Criminal Court #14.  The male driver, 45, of the Mercedes did not show signs of intoxication.  He was transported to an area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
