August 19, 2024 - Houston police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred at 5000 North Freeway (North Interstate Highway 45) about 2:40 a.m. on Saturday (August 17).

The identity of the deceased male, 36, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant J. Richards and Officer C. Brothers reported:

A Kenmore tractor trailer truck was traveling northbound on the freeway near the above address when it was struck from behind by a white Land Rover Ranger Rover traveling at a high rate of speed. The Range Rover then veered to the right and came to a stop in a grassy area before the service road.

The driver of the Ranger Rover and the passenger were transported to an area hospital, where the passenger was pronounced deceased. The driver suffered life-threatening injuries and remains hospitalized. The driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured.

The investigation is continuing.
