August 19, 2024 - Houston police are investigating the fatal crash that occurred at 5900 North Freeway (North Interstate Highway 45) about 12:50 a.m. on Saturday (August 17).

The identity of the male victim, 60, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant J. Richards and Officer J. Best reported:

A white Toyota Corolla was traveling near the above address when he saw a male lying in the roadway on the main lanes of the freeway. The driver tried to avoid striking the male but was unable to do so. He then stopped and called 9-1-1.

Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced the male deceased. A preliminary investigation indicated the male may have been struck by another vehicle prior to this incident.

The driver of the Toyota, who remained at the scene, was determined not to be impaired and was questioned and released.

The investigation is continuing.
