September 27, 2023 - Charges have been filed against a suspect wanted in the fatal shooting of a man at 9719 Bertwood Street about 7:30 a.m. on August 22.

The suspect, Jachob Leroy Byrd, 46, is charged with capital murder in the 180th State District Court. A photo of Byrd, who is not in custody, is attached to this news release.

The victim is identified as Eric Brown, 54.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeants R. Watson and M. Burrow reported: 

Officers responded to a report of a deceased male at a residence at the above address and found Mr. Brown suffering multiple gunshot wounds. Responding Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced him deceased at the scene.

Further investigation identified Byrd as a suspect in this case. Investigators consulted with the Harris County District Attorney's Office and charges were filed on Sept. 11.
