October 26, 2023 - The fatal shooting of a man at 4800 Neal Street about 2:55 a.m. on July 27 will be referred to a Harris County grand jury.

The deceased man is identified as Dwayne Vences, 33.

HPD Homicide Division Detectives W. Huff and J. Nguyen reported:

Officers observed a black Nissan Altima stopped in a moving lane of traffic at the above address. Upon investigation, they discovered a man, later identified as Mr. Vences, in the driver's seat of the car. He had sustained a gunshot wound. Responding Houston Fire Department personnel pronounced Vences deceased at the scene.

Further investigation by HPD homicide detectives determined the shooter was a juvenile female, 15. During interviews, the female claimed she shot Vences in self-defense.

After consulting with the Harris County District Attorney's Office, the case will be reviewed by a Harris County grand jury.
