October 25, 2023 - A suspect charged and wanted in the fatal shooting of a man that occurred at 9719 Bertwood Street about 7:30 a.m. on August 22 is in custody.

The suspect, Jachob Leroy Byrd, 46, is in custody in Walker County and is charged with capital murder in the 180th State District Court. A Walker County Sheriff's Office photo of Byrd is attached to this news release.

The victim is identified as Eric Brown, 54.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeants R. Watson and M. Burrow reported:

Officers responded to a report of a deceased male at a residence at the above address and found Mr. Brown suffering multiple gunshot wounds. Responding Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced him deceased at the scene.

Further investigation identified Byrd as a suspect in this case. Investigators consulted with the Harris County District Attorney's Office and charges were filed on September 11.

On Tuesday (October 24), Byrd was arrested in Walker County, Texas by Huntsville Police Department officers and US Marshals Service deputies and is awaiting extradition to Harris County.
