November 21, 2023 - Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 8700 Eastex Freeway (North U.S. Highway 59) about 6:45 p.m. on Monday (November 20).  

The identity of the deceased male is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.  

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant S. Jewell and Officer S. Le reported:  

The male was riding a bicycle on the southbound lanes of the Eastex Freeway near the Laura Koppe exit when he was struck by a black Volvo SUV.  The Volvo then came to a stop on the eastside emergency lane.  

Houston Fire department paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.  The driver of the Volvo, who remained at the scene, was determined not to be impaired and was questioned and released.  

The investigation is continuing.
