November 14, 2023 - Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 340 South Wayside Drive after a man was found deceased about 2:40 p.m. on Monday (November 13).  

The identity of the male, 44, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.  

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant S. Jewell and Officer C. Song reported:  

About 12:30 p.m., the male drove a front-end loader garbage truck (Texas Pride Disposal) into the parking lot at the above address toward some dumpsters.  Approximately two hours later, a witness noticed the truck had not left the area.  The witness then found the male unresponsive in the area between the dumpster and a wooden fence.  Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced the man deceased. 

A preliminary investigation determined the male, the only occupant in the truck, may have exited the vehicle and failed to set the parking brake.  The truck then moved and struck the driver as he stood near the fence and dumpster.  

The investigation is continuing.
