Investigation into Fatal Crash at 6031 Ranchester Drive
May 8, 2023 - Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 6031 Ranchester Drive about 7:35 p.m. on Sunday (May 7).
The identity of the victim, a two-year-old boy, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Rose and Officer R. Ramos reported:
The victim was playing in the parking lot of the apartment complex at the above address, with his mother nearby in a grassy area. A male got into his vehicle and backed out of his parking space, striking the child. The driver then left the scene. Though she didn't witness the crash, the child's mother quickly realized her son had been struck. Paramedics transported the boy to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
The child's family stated a vehicle in a parking space must have struck the child. They advised investigators they knew the vehicle and the owner's apartment. When the driver returned to the apartment complex and parked near the scene, officers detained him without incident.
The driver, 36, did not show visible signs of intoxication. He was questioned and released with no charges filed at this time, as the investigation is continuing.
