March 7, 2023 - Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 9900 North Loop East (North Interstate Highway 610 East) about 7:25 p.m. on Monday (March 6).  

The identity of the deceased male 42, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.  

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Rose and Officer D. Thompson reported:  

The driver of a silver Hyundai Santa Fe had a flat tire as he was traveling on the North Loop East near Wallisville Road/McCarty Road exit and stopped on the shoulder near the exit ramp.  A male driving a white Dodge Ram pickup truck stopped ahead of the Santa Fe and got out of his vehicle to assist the driver changing the tire.  

A Toyota Corolla traveling westbound on the main lanes of the North Loop was struck from behind by an unknown vehicle and the impact pushed the Toyota onto the shoulder.  The Toyota struck the Santa Fe, the male driver of the Dodge and the pickup truck. The driver of the unknown vehicle fled the scene with out stopping to render aid.  

The driver of the pickup was pronounced deceased at the scene by responding Houston Fire Department paramedics.  The male driver of the Toyota was transported to an area hospital in stable condition.
