June 23, 2023 - Charges have been filed against a suspect in the fatal assault of a woman found at 2625 Reed Road about 6:30 a.m. on June 11, 2008.

The suspect, Joshua Sinclair Owens, 34, is charged with murder in the 174th State District Court. A 2022 booking photo of Owens, who is in custody on unrelated charges, is attached to this news release.

He is accused in the death of Marsha Mitchell, 48.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeants M. Burrow and R. Watson reported:

Ms. Mitchell's body was discovered in a field next to a construction site at the above address. Officers learned she was last seen alive on the night of June 10, 2008, getting into a vehicle with an unknown black male at 12211 Fondren Road.

Subsequent investigation identified Owens, who was 19 at the time, as a suspect in this case. In 2022, additional DNA evidence and further investigation implicated Owens in the case and he was charged on Wednesday (June 21). Owens' is currently in the Harris County Joint Processing Center on unrelated charges.
