June 13, 2023 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the shooting of a man at 5076 Griggs Road about 10:40 p.m. on May 24.

The suspect, Jerry Bernard Jones, 54, is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and unlawful carrying of a weapon in the 180th State District Court. A booking photo of Jones is attached to this news release.

The victim, 51, was transported to an area hospital in critical condition.

HPD Major Assaults & Family Violence Division Detectives T. Forsythe and V. Habukiha reported:

HPD patrol officers responded to a shooting call at the above address and found the victim with multiple gunshot wounds. Houston Fire Department paramedics transported the man to the hospital. The suspect, unknown at that time, fled the scene in an unknown direction.

Further investigation identified Jones as the suspect. He was subsequently charged in the case and taken into custody last Thursday (June 8).
