January 30, 2023 - Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 5500 Southwest Freeway (South U.S. Highway 59) about 12:55 a.m. on Sunday (January 29).  

The identity of the deceased male, 45, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.  

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant E. Alejandro and Officer J. Trevino reported:  

According to witnesses, the driver of a black Nissan Versa was traveling westbound near the above address, failed to stay in a single lane and struck the impact attenuator (barrels) at the Fountain View Drive exit ramp.  The vehicle then bounced to the right and struck the concrete wall barrier on the right shoulder.  

Paramedics pronounced the male driver deceased at the scene.  The male passenger was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.  

The investigation is continuing.
