January 6, 2023 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man at 8600 Mesa Road about 9 p.m. on December 11.

The juvenile male suspect, 16, has been referred to Harris County Juvenile Probation authorities on a murder charge.

The victim is identified as Ivan Martinez, 19.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant K. Meeks and Detective J. Gardner reported:

Officers responded to a shooting call at strip center parking lot at the above address and found Mr. Martinez unresponsive in the driver's seat of his vehicle.  He had been shot several times and was pronounced deceased by paramedics.  

According to witness statements, it is believed a robbery took place during the sale of narcotics, which led to the suspect shooting Martinez.  Witnesses stated the suspect fled the scene in a cream-white colored sedan.

Further investigation identified the shooter as a 16-year-old male. On Thursday (January 5), he turned himself in at the Houston Police Department Southeast Patrol Station.
