January 4, 2023 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man at 9601 West Montgomery Road about 12:25 p.m. on October 3.

The suspect, Jalon Whitley, 21, is charged with murder in the 248th State District Court.  

The victim is identified as Jonte L. Grant, 25.  

HPD Homicide Division Detectives W. Huff and J. Nguyen reported:

HPD patrol officers responded to a shooting at an apartment complex at the above address and found the victim, between apartment buildings, suffering from a gunshot wound.  Houston Fire Department paramedics transported the victim, later identified as Mr. Grant, to HCA Houston Healthcare Northwest, where he was pronounced deceased.

Further investigation identified Whitley as one of three suspects involved in this incident.  Whitley was arrested on Tuesday (January 3) without incident.  Two other unidentified suspects remain at large.
