October 7, 2022 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man at 6524 Weston Street about 11:45 p.m. on September 27.

The suspect, Jaylon Boston, 19, is charged with capital murder in the 184th State District Court. A photo of Boston, who is in federal custody, is attached to this news release.

The victim is identified as Yogesh Sharma, 37.

HPD Homicide Division Detectives C. Flora, J. Flores, K. Collier and J. Stroble reported:

Officers responded to a shooting at the convenience store at the above address and were advised that Mr. Sharma, a store employee was shot after he had closed the business for the night. Sharma was attempting to get into his vehicle when he was confronted and shot more than once by Boston, who then took Sharma's vehicle and fled the scene. Paramedics arrived and pronounced Sharma deceased at the scene. The stolen vehicle, a gray Toyota Camry, was located abandoned the following day.

On Wednesday (Oct. 5), detectives released surveillance video and photos of a male and female wanted in the shooting. The following day (Oct. 6), acting on a tip, members of the HPD Gang Division and ATF Crime Gun Strike Force arrested Boston without incident. He is being held at the Federal Detention Center, pending additional federal charges related to this case.

Detectives have identified and are communicating with the female on the surveillance video with Boston. She has not been charged at this time, pending questioning and further investigation.
