January 06, 2022 - Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting of a woman and wounding of a man that occurred at 10934 Cheeves Drive about 2:50 p.m. on Wednesday (January 5).  

The victims are identified as Tasia Gardner, 36, and Leroy Butts, 36.  

HPD Homicide Division Detectives C. Vaughn and B. Stephens reported:  

HPD patrol officers responded to a report of a drive-by shooting at a residence at the above address and found Ms. Gardner and Mr. Butts inside their vehicle outside their residence.  Gardner was pronounced deceased at the scene.  Butts was transported by paramedics to an area hospital in critical condition.  

A preliminary investigation indicated a dark-colored sedan traveling northbound on Cheeves stopped in front of the victims' vehicle when the suspects fired shots from inside the vehicle.  Butts and Gardner were both struck multiple times.  The vehicle then drove to the next intersection where a Hispanic female exited the driver's seat and fled the scene in an unknown direction.  A black male exited the passenger seat, got into the driver's seat and fled northbound on Cheeves.  

At this time, there is no known motive for the shooting.
