Suspect Charged, Wanted in January Fatal Shooting at 10909 Gulf Freeway
September 21, 2021 - Charges have been filed against a suspect wanted in the fatal shooting of a man at 10909 Gulf Freeway (Interstate Highway 45 South) service road about 8 p.m. on January 28.
The suspect, Rene Santos Juarez (H/m, 24), is charged with murder in the 183rd State District Court. A photo of Juarez is attached to this news release. He is at large.
He is accused in the shooting death of Manuel Guzman, 34.
HPD Homicide Division Detectives P. Pak and C. Flora reported:
HPD patrol officers responded to a shooting at an apartment complex at the above address and found Mr. Guzman unresponsive and lying in the courtyard. He had suffered at least one gunshot wound to the chest. Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced Guzman deceased.
A preliminary investigation indicated Guzman was a tenant of the complex. Witnesses described hearing gunshots and seeing Guzman running through the parking lot. A vehicle, described as a blue or black 2003 to 2005 Chevrolet Impala with a gray front bumper that did not match the rest of the vehicle, was seen fleeing the area at a high rate of speed.
Further investigation identified Juarez as a suspect in this case and, on September 16, he was charged for his role in Guzman's death.
