September 07, 2021 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man at 9412 Coffee Street about 12:45 a.m. on Sunday (September 5).  

The suspect, Jalen Deshaun Gibson (b/m, 20), is charged with murder in the 230th State District Court.  A booking photo of Gibson is attached to this news release.

The victim is identified as Charrod Gibson, 37.  

HPD Homicide Division Detectives L. Kauffman and A. Ferrell reported:  

HPD patrol officers responded to a shooting at the above address and found Mr. Gibson unresponsive at the entrance to his residence.  He had suffered a gunshot wound to the chest.  Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and transported Gibson to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased.  

Further investigation and witness statements determined a male suspect approached Gibson while he was standing outside and shot at him twice, striking him in the chest.  The investigation led to the identity of Jalen Gibson as the suspect.  He later turned himself in to homicide detectives and was subsequently charged in the case.  Family members stated the suspect and victim were distant cousins.
