Investigation into Fatal Crash at 100 Southwest Freeway
March 8, 2021 - Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 100 Southwest Freeway (South U.S. Highway 59) that occurred about 2:05 a.m. today (March 8).
The identity of the male victim, 43, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant J. Uribe and Officer D. Nguyen reported:
The victim was driving a silver Nissan Altima westbound on the connector ramp from the South Freeway (U. S. Highway 288) northbound onto the Southwest Freeway and failed to maintain a single lane and struck the guardrail on the ramp. A passing motorist came upon on the crash, saw the victim slumped over the steering wheel and called 9-1-1.. Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and transported the victim to St. Joseph's Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased.
A preliminary investigation determined the Nissan did not have damage consistent with a fatal crash and it is believed the victim may have suffered a medical issue just prior to the crash.
